ArtistAbout the Artist
I like experimenting when sculpting, new ideas and themes often evolve from conversations that Ive had, my work has been described as a social commentary on life.
With the past few exhibitions I have enjoyed working with darker themes, but presenting them in an Oh so nice way. I like pieces that have ambiguity and its the eye of the beholder that decides if a piece has a nice or darker element to it, it is very dependent on how cynical the viewer is.
For me I like that appearances can be deceptive.

Awards
Wellington artist Melissa Young won first-equal place for her sculpture Experience is the Mother of Knowledge in the 2002 Pacific Art Awards. The entrants were asked to respond to the theme of Old Narratives, New HistoriesPast, Present and Future. As a third generation Chinese born in New Zealand, Melissa chose to centre her work around the familys migration and the growth of the two cultures.
